The Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, The Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a, graced the Padre Hour event held at the Defence Headquarters Camp Admin Unit (DHQ CAU). He was accompanied by DHQ CAU Commandant, Brigadier Bernard Korir, and the Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Wycliffe Barasa. The spiritually enriching session aimed at deepening faith and fostering resilience among service members.
The visit formed part of Bishop Ng’ang’a’s ongoing familiarization tour of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) units and formations, following his recent appointment by the late Pope Francis to provide spiritual leadership to the KDF.
The Military Ordinariate of Kenya offers pastoral care tailored to the unique challenges faced by KDF personnel and their families—ranging from combat-related trauma and moral guidance to family life support. As the third Bishop of the Ordinariate, Bishop Ng’ang’a emphasized his mission to be both a “shepherd and brother,” anchoring spiritual strength as a cornerstone of military resilience.
In his sermon, the Bishop underscored the values of unity, ethical leadership, and compassionate pastoral care, especially during deployments and periods of trauma. He lauded the peaceful coexistence of diverse religious beliefs within the KDF and urged soldiers to remain grounded in faith, always reflecting on their dual roles as both citizens and defenders of the nation.
Drawing a powerful analogy between military readiness and spiritual preparedness, he encouraged troops to face life’s challenges with inner strength and unwavering belief.
The DHQ CAU Chaplaincy continues to uphold this vision through ongoing chaplaincy services, moral instruction, counselling, and crisis support—particularly for personnel affected by operational stress.
Bishop Ng’ang’a called upon soldiers to serve with joy and peace, reminding them that their vocation is a divine calling. On matters of family life, he urged members to prioritize and nurture their family bonds, remain vigilant about their social influences, embrace change, share burdens to avoid mental strain, forgive freely, and always foster hope in God.
The Padre Hour not only reaffirmed the KDF’s strong commitment to the spiritual welfare of its personnel but also marked a significant milestone in Bishop Ng’ang’a’s engagement with the force.
