Major General Eric Kinuthia, Patron of the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association (KDFGA), along with senior military officers visited Ukunda Secondary School in Kwale County to assess the progress of construction and infrastructure rehabilitation projects being undertaken by the KDF at the school. The civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) projects were launched to commemorate the 16th CISM World Military Golf Championship, which is ongoing at the nearby Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort in Diani, within the County.
The renovations include upgrades of the school laboratories to ensure compliance with the Curriculum Based Education (CBE), an extension of the administration block to include a printing house and kitchen, improved sanitation facilities, and construction of parade/parking grounds.
Mr. Laban Tito, the Deputy Principalof the school, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Principal and students for the significant support from the KDF, which aims to provide a better and safer learning environment. He noted that the improvements in infrastructure have boosted morale among both students and teachers.
Since the construction began on 23 June 2025, the KDF Construction Engineers team, using local human resource, has been working 24 hours in rotating shifts to ensure none-stop progress and meet the deadline, which is aimed to coincide with the conclusion of the 16th CISM World Military Golf Championship on 29 June 2025.
In addition to the project at Ukunda Secondary School, KDF is also involved in construction and rehabilitation at Nngori Primary School in Ukunda. The project includes building an administration block, renovating classrooms and toilet blocks, as well as constructing a road linking the school to enhance accessibility.
