CISM GOLF DELEGATIONS VISIT SHIMBA HILLS

Following the conclusion of the 16th CISM World Military Golf Championship in Diani, the visiting CISM delegations explored the stunning natural beauty of Shimba Hills. Located approximately 25 kilometers south of Mombasa and just 15 kilometers from the shimmering Indian Ocean, the Shimba Hills area offers a serene escape filled with lush landscapes and diverse wildlife.

The team, which showcased their golfing prowess over the past week at the championship, visited the Shimba Hills National Reserve, Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, and the Mkongani Forest Reserves. The Shimba Hills National Reserve is particularly renowned for its breath-taking scenery, including the captivating Shedrick Falls, named in honor of David Sheldrick, who was a Kenyan park warden and conservationist.

As the team trekked through the verdant trails, they were met by sights and sounds of the unique ecosystem that thrives in the region. The expedition provided an opportunity for the golfers not only to unwind but also to appreciate the rich biodiversity of the area, which is home to the endangered Sitatunga antelope and a variety of bird species.

The visit to Shimba Hills reinforces the CISM team’s commitment to promoting camaraderie and cultural exchange through sports, while also raising awareness about environmental conservation efforts in Kenya.

As the sun set over the hills, the team reflected on their experiences, both on the golf course and in nature, cherishing the memories made during their stay in this picturesque coastal region. The CISM team’s journey not only celebrated athletic excellence but also highlighted the beauty and importance of Kenya’s natural landscapes.
