The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS), on recently, hosted a delegation of International Relations (IR) Students from the United States International University (USIU). The aim of the visit was to familiarise the students on the roles of KDF in safeguarding national security and contribution to international peace and security.
The delegation was received by the Commandant Defence Intelligence Academy (DIA) Col Deogracious Masalu who noted that the visit provided the two institutions an opportunity to share proactive, informative, and educative lessons geared towards ensuring a better understanding of KDF work dynamics.
Dr Pauline Njoroge, a lecturer at USIU and leader of the students delegation remarked that HPSS is one of the KDF’s academic institutions offering quality military education and it was a privilege for United States International University to engage with such institutions. Additionally, she thanked the Defence Relations Office for coordinating the visit.
” It is an honour to be permitted to come today. We come with a lot of patience to listen and learn. Today, you bring us understanding as to where we stand as a country security wise and also the KDF’s role in security. She said, ”
Presentations were made by senior officers and officers drawn from the KDF Trilateral Services. Topics covered areas such as security, primary and secondary roles of KDF, achievements in its mandate, impacts of participation in the quest for peace both locally and internationally and opportunities available in the military for IR students.
The presentation also touched on peace support operations and KDF as a tool of diplomacy, foreign policy, and safeguarding of national interest. The presentation highlighted the various achievements by KDF in their various deployments.
The forum was followed by a question and answer session with clarification being sort on involvement of KDF in development, KDF deployment regionally and internationally, accountability and legal implications of deployments.
