KDF STEPS OUT FOR CHILDREN WITH DIABETES

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) team led by the Director of Medical Services Major General George Nganga on 12 July united with Kenyans in an annual Diabetes Walk held at Carnivore gardens, Nairobi County.

The Defence Forces acknowledging the growing challenge of diabetes management participated in the effort, emphasizing the need to address diabetes and other non-communicable diseases in society.

The high profile event incorporated government agencies, banking sector, media and civilian partners in a united front to support children with diabetes to acquire proper testing kits and insulin needed for medication.

The walk was flagged off by Dr. Isaak Bashir, the head of divisions Cancer and Non Communicable Diseases and saw participants cover a total of 12.6 Km. He lauded participants for turning up in large numbers and expressing willingness to support millions of children with diabetes from across the country.

Dr. Nancy Ngungi, the Chairman Diabetes Management and Information Board, observed that the initiative not only sought to raise funds to support the vulnerable but also to demystify common misconceptions associated with the diseases. She further called for enhanced diabetes awareness in the society.

This year’s walk was dedicated to promoting physical, mental, and societal well-being for those at risk or living with diabetes.
