PS DEFENCE INSPECTS KEY NATIONAL GOVERNMENT INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS 

Principal Secretary for Defence Dr. Patrick Mariru conducted an inspection tour of key national infrastructure projects being implemented by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) across Nakuru, Nyandarua, and Laikipia Counties.

In Nakuru County, Dr. Mariru visited the Gilgil Railway Station, where the Ministry is undertaking major renovation works aimed at reviving this critical transport corridor as part of the broader effort to improve mobility and stimulate economic activity in the region.

In Nyandarua County, the Principal Secretary, accompanied by the Governor of Nyandarua, H.E. Dr. Moses Kiarie Badilisha and Area MP Hon Arch. David Kiaraho, inspected the ongoing construction of the JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital and the Ol-Kalou Stadium. Both facilities are being supervised by MoD and are expected to be completed by December 2025. The hospital and stadium are part of a strategic initiative to boost access to healthcare and sports infrastructure in the county.

While in Ol-Kalou, the delegation also visited the Ol-Kalou Railway Station, where rehabilitation works is at 80% complete. The renovation is expected to support regional connectivity and trade upon full completion.

Dr. Mariru concluded his tour at Nyahururu Railway Station in Laikipia County, where the Ministry is finalizing rehabilitation works. The project is currently at 95% completion and is set to restore the station to full operational capacity.

The Ministry of Defence, through KDF, remains a key partner in the implementation of high impact infrastructure projects across the country, under the President’s directive.
