In a display of unity, fitness, and military pride, the Airborne Fraternity honoured the strong will and undying spirit of Kenyan warriors with an Elite 120-Kilometer, Intermediate 60-Kilometer, Junior-40 Kilometer and a Family and Friends 5-Kilometer cycling event held on 20th July 2025. The event brought together 130 cyclists who began their journey from the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata, Nairobi.
The eccentric 120 Km and 60 Km circuit ride through the scenic routes from Nairobi through Karen, Ngong to Suswa town gave the riders an opportunity to experience the beauty of the Great Rift Valley and the vast Maasai Plains. The 40 Km scenic route cut through the Lush Karen Estate into the soothing urban terrain.
The commemorative event was held ahead of the upcoming Airborne diamond Jubilee celebrations to be held on 8th August 2025. The special day meant to honour the dedicated service and sacrifice made by Kenya’s Airborne troops for the past 60 years, since the formation of the first Special Operations Forces Units and Detachments in Military history.
Speaking during the awarding ceremony, General Officer Commanding in charge of Central Command Major General John Nkoimo expressed immense pride in the occasion and congratulated participants for their unwavering determination.
“Today’s cycling event is a symbolic reflection of the true spirit of resilience, teamwork and mission readiness. I thank everyone who contributed to making this day a memorable success,” he said.
Army Special Operations Brigade Commander Brigadier Ahmed Saman commended the spirit of cohesion, dedication and resilience among the Airborne Fraternity, noting that such events reflected the endurance, discipline, and unity among the fraternity.
Among the awarded was Joseph Henry, who emerged best in the Kid category. Carol Mutura won the best lady in the Junior circuit category while Tyson Odhiambo was the 1st runner’s.
In the Intermediate category, Gloria Mbula clutched the best lady award and the 1st runners up while Levin Otieno closely followed as the 2nd runners up. Adrian Mwetu emerged top in the category. The Elite category saw Kaura emerge the 3rd position as Eric Wallace came 2nd leaving Samuel Kagiri claiming the 1st position.
All circuits were meant to challenge the participants as they enjoyed the serenity while giving them an opportunity to celebrate resilience, test endurance and network with Kenya’s Elite Military Warriors. Participants were treated to a 10 round raffle tickets draw where several gifts were won.
The event was supported by various partners including Diamond Trust Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank, Dedsilva International Ltd and Isuzu East Africa whose support contributed to the success of the commemorative activities.
