COMMANDER KENYA NAVY HOSTS EUROPEAN UNION NAVAL FORCE COMMANDER

On 11 August 2025, Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno hosted a delegation from the European Union Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Operation Atalanta, led by the Force Commander, Rear Admiral Francisco Javier Vázquez Sanz at the Kenya Navy Headquarters in Mtongwe, Mombasa.

The courtesy visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in maritime security within the Indian Ocean region. Discussions cantered around key areas of mutual interest including capacity development, expanded opportunities for joint training, coordinated patrols and fostering a rules-based international maritime order through collective action against illicit activities at sea.

As part of the engagement, the delegation toured the Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS) at the Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC). The FMBS provides a state-of-the-art, immersive environment replicating a ship’s bridge and serves as a critical tool for the training of naval officers, sailors and other maritime agencies.

This engagement reflects the continued commitment by both the Kenya Navy and EU NAVFOR to regional maritime stability and security through partnership and collaboration.
