ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE ON DISPLAY AT MOI AIR BASE 

The Base Commander Moi Air Base, Brigadier Herbert Wafula, presided over the 37th Inter Wings Cross Country Championship on August 20, 2025, at Sina Makosa Stadium.

Teams competing included Moi Air Base Headquarters Wing (MAB HQW), Kenya Air Force Admin Wing (KAW), MAB Aviation Hospital (MABAH), KAF Training Wing (KTW), Logistics Command, Technical Maintenance Group (TMG), Transport Wing, Helicopter Wing, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing (ISR), Tactical Transport Wing (TTW), VIP Wing, and Flight Support Wing (FSW).

Events included men’s and women’s 10km races and a mixed relay, sponsored by Defence Forces Welfare Services (DEFWES) and Defence Savings and Credit Co-operative Society (DESSACO) and absa Bank.

Sgt Elizabeth Mueni (HQ Wing) won the women’s 10km in 35:29:1, followed by Pte Karen Jepchumba (Flying Wing) and Pte Nessy Mmbai (Heli Wing). In the men’s race, Spte Amos Cheruiyot clocked 33:37:01 to take first place, with Ssgt Ibrahim Kwemoi and Spte Taki Geoffrey in second and third.

HQ Wing won the mixed relay overall, while TMG led in the men’s relay. HQ Wing claimed the overall title, ahead of KTW and CSD. The championship was also used to select the Moi Air Base team that will represent the Base in the KDF cross country.

Brig Wafula commended the athletes, saying, “This is what MAB is known for…excellence. I would like to thank all of you for making this day a success. You have shown teamwork, resilience, and discipline. Keep up the good work.”

Commanding Officer Sports, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar, added, “Such events provide good mental and physical exercise. Our main objective was to select new members to represent the Base, and it has been a success.”
