The Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) has officially opened a new branch in Kitengela, marking a significant clincher in its efforts to expand service delivery and strengthen the livestock value chain across the country.
The expansion is part of KMC’s strategic plan to decentralize services, making quality meat products more accessible to customers and provide a reliable market for livestock farmers.
Speaking during the launch, The KMC Managing Commissioner, Major General Gula Jattani, reaffirmed KMC’s commitment to supporting farmers and consumers alike and will ensure the opening up of nine branches for legit meat.
“This new branch demonstrates our dedication to empowering livestock farmers by guaranteeing them a ready market, while also ensuring that Kenyans have access to affordable, nutritious, legit and high-quality meat products,” Said Major General Gula.
The branch will provide a wide range of services including livestock procurement, meat processing, retail sales, and distribution to institutional clients. It is also expected to create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity in the region.
In September 2020, the government handed over management of KMC to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to streamline operations, reduce corruption, and ensure efficiency. Since then, KMC has been undergoing reforms, including upgrading facilities, improving supply chains, and reclaiming export markets.
The aim of the Kenya Meat commission under the management of the Ministry of Defence is to expand locally and open more branches in Rongai, Syokimau, Thika and Nairobi CBD, also apart from the branch in Makupa, Mombasa County, there will be two more branches in Mtwapa and Likoni, targeting over 50 million revenue income.
