KENYA AIR FORCE HOSTS INAUGURAL COMMANDER KAF CHESS TOURNAMENT

The Kenya Air Force held its first Commander KAF Chess Tournament on 26 August 2025 at Moi Air Base Gymnasium, marking a significant milestone in the Service’s sporting calendar.

The event brought together 59 participants from various KAF formations as well as civilian players. Players were drawn from Moi Air Base, Embakasi Air Base, Defence Forces Technical College, Laikipia Air Base, Air Combat Evacuation, Wajir Air Base, KAF Administration Wing, and civilians. Players competed in eight challenging rounds designed to test their skill, endurance and focus.

Deputy Commander KAF Brigadier Samuel Kipkorir presided over the tournament on behalf of Commander KAF Major General Bernard Waliaula. In his remarks, Brig Kipkorir commended the organisers and participants, urging them to continue sharpening their skills as KAF prepares for the Chief of Defence Forces Chess Tournament on 29 August 2025.

Lt Brian Onduso from LAB emerged champion with 7 points, followed by Warrant Officer Class One Japheth Yumbi (MAB) in second place and Warrant Officer Class One George Ngethe (MAB) in third. Cpl Eva Cherop (MAB) was the top female player. The top performers will represent KAF in the upcoming CDF tournament.

The competition underscored KAF’s commitment to nurturing talent, promoting mental discipline and fostering camaraderie among its personnel.
