MOD EXPEDITES COMPLETION OF GITHUNGURI HOSPITAL

Githunguri Sub-County Hospital that has been pending since 2019 is among several priority national infrastructure projects spread across the country that the Ministry of Defence (MOD) is expediting.

Working with the County Government of Kiambu, MOD through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is keen on ensuring that the hospital that encompasses a new 5-storey block is completed, equipped and operationalized before close of this year.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon Soipan Tuya on Tuesday joined Kiambu Governor H.E Paul Wamatangi at a status meeting and joint inspection of the hospital complex that is almost 70% complete.

Githunguri Sub-County Hospital is among the eight priority health facilities across the country that were identified by the government in 2018 and tasked to MOD for upgrade as part of the national roll-out of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) programme.

Others are Narumoru Sub-County Hospital, Tumu Tumu Hospital, Engineer Hospital, Keroka Hospital, Busia Referral Hospital, Sura Adoru Dispensary and Eldas Sub County Hospital.

Present at the inspection were Defence Principal Secretary Dr Patrick Mariru, Speaker of the County Assembly of Kiambu Hon Charles Murungaru, MOD’s Chief of Special Projects Brig Titus Sokobe and Head of Supply Chain Management Mr Willis Olwalo among several local leaders and residents.
