The Special Envoy on Technology, Ambassador Philip Thigo, on 2 September 2025 paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, at Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.
The two leaders held bilateral discussions focusing on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies, underscoring the importance of regular strategic consultations to align national security and technological priorities.
They also explored joint capacity-building programmes between the Foreign Service Academy and the National Defence College (NDC), aimed at fostering synergy between personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence serving in international missions.
Further, Ambassador Thigo and General Kahariri deliberated on collaborative research and policy development initiatives to support regional and multilateral governance by combining operational and policy expertise.
The meeting also considered potential partnership on the Responsible Use of AI in the Military Domain (REAIM) Summit, with discussions on strategy and resource mobilisation to advance Kenya’s ambition of hosting the event.
Present during the meeting were the Director of Military Intelligence (DMI), Major General Mohammed Burje, and the Chief of Communication and Information Systems, Brigadier Yusuf Adan.
