Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, Auditor General FCPA Nancy Gathungu, and Embu Governor Hon. Cecily Mbarire jointly presided over the official commissioning of a new ultra-modern Regional Office Block for the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) in a ceremony that took place in Embu County.
This state-of-the-art facility is a product of successful inter-agency collaboration involving the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the Office of the Auditor General, and the County Government of Embu. The project was implemented under the technical supervision of the Ministry of Defence, through the KDF, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
The new office is designed to bolster the operational capacity of the Office of the Auditor General in the region (Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Meru) by improving accessibility, efficiency, and coordination of audit services with local stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Defence PS Dr. Patrick Mariru emphasized the significance of the project as a reflection of the government’s commitment to equitable infrastructure development and national transformation through inter-agency collaboration.
“This facility demonstrates the power of collaboration in delivering impactful, sustainable projects to our citizens. It brings services closer to the people, enhances public service delivery, and contributes to local economic growth ” said Dr. Mariru.
He further reiterated the Ministry of Defence’s evolving role in supporting national development efforts beyond security, noting that multi-agency cooperation remains key to achieving the country’s development goals.
Auditor General FCPA Nancy Gathungu, who was also the Chief Guest at the event, lauded the project as a symbol of transparency, accountability, and service to the people.
She called on auditors, public officers, and citizens alike to actively engage in ensuring that the facility becomes “a beacon of transparency, accountability, and transformation.”
On her part, Embu Governor H.E. Hon. Cecily Mbarire expressed appreciation to all stakeholders involved in the project, and underscored the importance of audit services in enhancing performance and effective service delivery at both levels of government.
