Defence PS Dr. Patrick Mariru on 15th September 2025, chaired a consultative meeting with the Sports Steering Committee at the Talanta Office to assess the ongoing construction of the Talanta Sports Stadium, a flagship project underscoring the government’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering national pride through sports.
The project, which is progressing steadily, remains on track for completion by the end of 2025. Once completed, the stadium will stand as a world class facility designed to host both local and international sporting events including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya is set to co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
“This stadium is not just a piece of infrastructure; it is a symbol of our dedication to transforming the sports landscape in Kenya and providing a platform for our youth to shine on the global stage,” said PS Defence.
He further added that the Ministry of Defence is fully committed to actualizing the project in line with the President’s and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces H.E Dr. William Ruto’s directive.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders involved in the project to review timelines, coordinate efforts, and ensure high standards are maintained throughout the construction process.
Those attending included, Brigadier Titus Sokobe, Chief of Special Projects, Defence Headquarters, Mr. Gabriel Komora, Acting Director General, Sports Kenya, Mr. Adamson Bungei, Nairobi Regional Police Commander, and representatives from National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Nairobi Metropolitan Transport Authority (NAMATA)and Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
