The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), in collaboration with the Dedan Kimathi Foundation, and Medical Missions Africa (MEMA), recently conducted a series of community-centered initiatives in Baringo County aimed at improving health, promoting environmental conservation, and fostering peace.
In Kasakara, the partners organized a medical outreach camp that provided vital healthcare services to residents. Several hundreds of patients were treated for various ailments, ranging from respiratory infections to maternal and child health concerns. Alongside medical consultations and treatment, families were supplied with clean drinking water, a critical step in reducing the spread of waterborne diseases and improving general wellbeing.
Meanwhile, in Chemolingot, learners, security personnel, and community members came together for a tree planting exercise. The activity, held across schools and security installations, underscored the importance of environmental conservation as part of building resilience and a sustainable future. Learners enthusiastically participated in planting seedlings alongside soldiers and volunteers, symbolizing unity, collaboration, and hope for a greener tomorrow.
Speaking during the initiatives, representatives from the Dedan Kimathi Foundation emphasized the dual importance of safeguarding both the environment and community health. OMU leadership noted that beyond enhancing security, their mandate also extends to initiatives that uplift local communities.
Through these initiatives, KDF and its partners reinforced the spirit of collaboration between civil society, security agencies, and the local community. By addressing both immediate needs such as healthcare and long-term goals like environmental sustainability, they continue to foster trust, unity, and resilience in the North Rift region.
