KDF LEADS FRONTLINE INITIATIVE TO RESTORE PEACE AND DRIVE PROSPERITY IN KIUNGA

A multi-agency team under Operation Amani Boni (OAB), in partnership with Lamu East Sub-County officials headed by Member of Parliament for Lamu East, Hon. Captain Ruweida, convened security and development meeting at Kiunga Primary School. The forum sought to strengthen cooperation between security forces, local leadership, and residents in restoring peace and promoting sustainable development across Kiunga and the wider Boni region.

The meeting drew together key stakeholders, security agencies, community elders, local administrators, and residents, all united in their commitment to counter insecurity and drive prosperity.

Major Metiokio, from KDF, underscored the indispensable role of the community in safeguarding national security. He urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious activities, particularly those linked to Al-Shabaab, which continues to destabilize the region.

He further reaffirmed the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) dedication to protecting the people, stressing that joint security efforts are steadily restoring normalcy in areas previously affected by insurgent activities.

Hon. Captain Ruweida, echoed his sentiments, calling for unity and a collective approach to addressing local challenges. She strongly condemned the recent bombing of a businesswoman’s shop in Kiunga, terming it a tragic act of violence against innocent citizens. She further appealed to security agencies to intensify operations while upholding professionalism and respect for human rights.

Community leaders stressed the need for a people-centered approach, mutual respect, and sustained dialogue as key to building trust and achieving lasting peace in the region.

The engagement reaffirmed a collective commitment to open dialogue, inclusive development, and continuous collaboration as the foundation for restoring peace, security, and social cohesion in Kiunga and the Boni enclave.
