Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) David Ketter, presided over the Kenya Army Inter-Formation Rifle Championship held on 23rd September 2025 at the Ngong Rifle Range. The event was aimed at sharpening marksmanship, discipline, and combat readiness among Kenya Army personnel.
The Championship served as a key training ground, preparing troops for the upcoming Kenya Defence Forces Rifle Championship. Competing units included formations from Kahawa Garrison, Embakasi Garrison, and the Defence Headquarters Camp Admin Unit, all vying for honours in accuracy, discipline, and battlefield readiness.
The competition featured a variety of categories including the Uhodari Cup, Vijana Cup, Falling Plates, and the Moving Target Challenge, reflecting the breadth of the Army’s training efforts.
In his address, Lt Gen Ketter underscored the significance of the Championship in enhancing training, testing combat readiness, improving marksmanship skills, and fostering teamwork and discipline.
“This competition is a decisive element in sharpening the Kenya Army’s marksmanship, discipline, and cohesion, while fostering unity and healthy competition among formations,” he said.
He added: “A soldier’s success is measured not just by trophies, but by combat readiness, teamwork, and professional excellence. A soldier proficient with their weapon is a mission-ready soldier.”
Kahawa Garrison Bravo Team emerged overall winners, followed by Kahawa Alpha Team in second place and Nairobi Garrison in third. Lieutenant Dominic Kemboi won the Young Officer Best Shot with a perfect score of 74 points, while Corporal Isaac Kibet secured the Best Young Soldier Shot with 64 points, both representing Kahawa Garrison Bravo Team.
