STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY RELATIONS IN GARISSA COUNTY

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), under Operation Amani Boni (OAB), have intensified Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities in Garissa County to foster peace and improve community welfare.

In Bulagalol, Bura East Sub-County, KDF troops conducted a medical outreach program that served surrounding villages. The exercise offered general health check-ups, treatment of minor ailments, and vital education on hygiene and disease prevention. To complement the outreach, KDF personnel also held Key Leadership Engagement (KLE) sessions with local leaders to address security concerns and strengthen cooperation in maintaining peace and stability.

In the Warsame area, KDF troops carried out a CIMIC activity in Sagaar village, providing clean drinking water to hundreds of residents facing persistent shortages. To secure access to the community’s main water pan, KDF also conducted clearance patrols, supported by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists, ensuring the route remained safe for villagers.

Speaking during the exercise, Captain Ngone reaffirmed KDF’s commitment to protecting civilians while supporting development, noting that lasting peace can only be achieved when security and community welfare go hand in hand.

The initiatives were warmly welcomed by residents of Bulagalol and Sagaar, who expressed gratitude for the support and pledged continued collaboration with security forces.

These CIMIC efforts are part of KDF’s broader strategy under Operation Amani Boni to integrate humanitarian support with security operations—demonstrating that the mission is not only about countering threats, but also about building resilience, strengthening partnerships, and securing long-term stability in Kenya’s border regions.
