KENYA NAVY JUNIOR SECONDARY STUDENTS VISITS NAVAL FACILITIES AND KENYA SHIPYARDS LIMITED

Students from Kenya Navy Junior Secondary School recently visited Kenya Navy facilities and Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) in Mtongwe, Mombasa County. The visit offered the learners a valuable opportunity to gain practical exposure to maritime security and operations while also learning about potential career paths within Kenya’s growing maritime domain.

The visit commenced at the Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC), where students explored key facilities including the Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS) and the Damage Control Unit (DCU). These advanced training tools are critical in training naval officers, service members and personnel from other maritime agencies. Through interactive demonstrations, students witnessed how the FMBS simulates real-time navigation and bridge management while the DCU provides hands-on experience in firefighting and shipboard damage control, essential components of maritime safety.

Following the KNTC session, the students proceeded on a guided tour on board Kenya Navy Ship (KNS) JASIRI at the Kenya Navy Fleet (KNF). This rare opportunity offered students first hand insights into the operational capabilities of Kenya Navy vessels, sparking interest in maritime security and operations.

The students also visited Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) to acquaint themselves with knowledge on refit, repair and maintenance of ships and other maritime vessels.

This educational tour not only expanded the students’ awareness of maritime security and industry but also instilled a strong sense of national pride. It underscored the Kenya Navy’s commitment to maritime education as a pathway to future careers in the Blue Economy.
