COMMANDER KENYA ARMY LEADS KDF COMMUNITY OUTREACH AHEAD OF KDF DAY

In a show of compassion and commitment to community service, the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, accompanied by the General Officer Commanding Western Command, Major General Jeff Nyagah, on 6 October 2025 led the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) fraternity in a series of community outreach initiatives in Eldoret ahead of the upcoming Kenya Defence Forces Day 2025.

At Soy Health Centre, KDF donated assorted items including medication, chairs, chest drawer tables, and sanitary materials for girls such as towels and toiletries, during the launch of a two-day medical camp at the facility.

On the first day alone, over 1,300 patients were registered, and close to 1,000 men, women, and children, including the elderly, received treatment for various ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), and lower back pain. The medical camp will conclude on Tuesday, 7 October 2025.

Speaking at the health centre, Lieutenant General Ketter reaffirmed KDF’s unwavering commitment to national service that extends beyond the battlefield.

“The KDF continues to enhance its capacity not only to serve our personnel within the barracks but also to extend support to civilians whenever possible. We thought it fit to reach out and share with you, our neighbours, through acts of service and support. Today’s event is a demonstration of that partnership as we extend medical and humanitarian assistance to the public,” he said.

At Ainopngetik Primary School, the Commander commissioned a 150-metre-deep borehole with a fresh water yield of nine cubic metres per hour. The borehole will provide clean water to both the school and the surrounding community.

Headteacher Ms. Alice Maikong expressed her gratitude, noting that access to clean water will significantly improve hygiene standards and ease the burden on pupils who previously had to fetch water from distant sources.

Lieutenant General Ketter also visited Lewa Children’s Home, where he led KDF’s donation of fifty mattresses, one hundred blankets, and one hundred bedsheets to enhance the children’s welfare.

Additionally, Cheramei Primary School is benefiting from ongoing KDF outreach activities through the rehabilitation of classrooms and an ablution block. Further, KDF is rehabilitating a 21-kilometre stretch of the Kamagut road to ease the movement of people and goods.

As KDF prepares to mark the 2025 KDF Day celebrations on 14 October at Moi Barracks, Eldoret, these outreach efforts underscore that true strength lies not only in defending the nation but also in uplifting its communities.
