CS DEFENCE CONVENES MEETING WITH CS HEALTH

Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya alongside her counterpart from the Ministry of Health, Hon. Aden Duale, today convened a consultative meeting at Defence Headquarters, to deliberate on the progress and implementation framework of the upcoming ultra-modern Multispecialty Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) at Kiplombe, Uasin Gishu County.

The meeting, which also brought together senior officials from both ministries, was attended by Principal Secretary for Defence, Mr. Patrick Mariru, and his Health counterpart, Dr. Ouma Oluga, who underscored the significance of the project as a landmark government investment aimed at enhancing Kenya’s healthcare capacity through strategic inter-ministerial collaboration.

The 4,000 bed capacity facility will be implemented in phases under the leadership of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the County Government of Uasin Gishu. Phase One, comprising 2,000 beds, is expected to be completed by April 2027. Once fully operational, the hospital will serve as a centre of excellence in specialized treatment, medical research, and professional training.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Tuya emphasized that the project reflects the government’s commitment to delivering transformative infrastructure that promotes citizens’ wellbeing. She further highlighted that the project is one of the MoD’s contribution to national development.

Hon. Duale, on his part, reiterated MoH’s dedication to ensuring the hospital meets international standards in medical service delivery, research, and training. He lauded the partnership with MoD as a model for effective inter agency collaboration in achieving national development goals.

The ultra-modern facility will feature cutting-edge medical technology and integrated training programmes aimed at nurturing a new generation of highly skilled healthcare professionals. The hospital will also enhance access to quality medical care for citizens while supporting the broader government agenda of strengthening the health care sector.
