On Thursday, 06 November 2025, the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Kipkemboi Ketter, chaired a routine Academy Control Board Meeting at the Kenya Military Academy (KMA), Lanet, Nakuru.
As the premier training institution for officer cadets in Kenya and allied nations, the Kenya Military Academy plays a vital role in shaping the future leadership of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). The Army Commander’s leadership in the Board underscores the KDF’s steadfast commitment to professional military education, institutional development, and operational readiness.
During the meeting, the Board received updates on the Academy’s progress across ongoing training programmes, preparations for upcoming cadet recruitment, and administrative matters requiring strategic direction and policy guidance.
Later, Lieutenant General Ketter conducted an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure development projects within the Academy to assess their status and alignment with institutional goals.
The Board comprises: Commander Kenya Army (Chairperson), Assistant Chief of Defence Forces – Operations, Doctrine and Training, Commandant Kenya Military Academy, Deputy Commander Kenya Air Force, Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Chief of Logistics Defence Headquarters, Chief of Personnel Defence Headquarters, Chief of Training Kenya Army Headquarters, Commandant Joint Warfare Centre, Colonel Education Defence Headquarters, Director of Examinations National Defence University – Kenya, Deputy Commandant Kenya Military Academy, Commandant Officer Cadet School and Staff Officer I – Coordination KMA (Secretary).
The KMA remains a centre of excellence in foundational officer training, responsible for commissioning cadets into the KDF and other allied militaries. Its governance is overseen by the Academy Control Board, which is tasked with providing strategic oversight and direction.
The Board plays a critical role in ensuring the Academy remains aligned with the strategic objectives of the KDF and meets the evolving demands of modern military leadership.
