Kenya Defence Forces troops deployed at the Chemolingot Operation Maliza Uhalifu Headquarters today led a major tree-planting exercise in collaboration with the Dedan Kimathi Foundation (DKF) and the Kenya Forest Service (KFS). The activity took place at the Chemolingot Multi-Agency Command Centre (MACC) and Chesitet Forward Operating Base in Tiaty Central, Baringo County.
The event showcased a powerful partnership between the military, conservation organisations, and national environmental agencies, all united by a shared mission which aims to restore ecosystems, combat climate change, and build a greener, safer future for communities in the country.
Major Kakai of KDF, commended the joint effort and noted its long-term value to the region. He said the exercise was about planting hope and stability, adding that the trees would help control floods, boost agriculture, and support community growth. He emphasized that the partnership with the Dedan Kimathi Foundation and KFS demonstrated a commitment not only to security but to the wellbeing of future generations.
A total of 1,050 seedlings were planted across Chemolingot and Chesitet by officers, conservationists, and local stakeholders. The focus now shifts to nurturing the young trees to ensure their survival and long-term impact.
KDF and the Dedan Kimathi Foundation share a unified commitment to national service, heritage, and environmental stewardship. KDF upholds environmental protection as a core element of national security, while DKF advances conservation as a patriotic duty that honours the legacy of Kenya’s freedom fighters.
