Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Ketter presided over the annual Kenya Army Commander’s Trophy Golf Tournament at Thika Barracks, Kiambu County on 15 November 2025. The event also marked the official launch of the Kenya Army Golf Club, formerly known as Thika Barracks Golf Club, now under the patronage of the Commander Kenya Army.
The tournament, held under the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association, is part of the KDF’s wellness program, focusing on promoting not only physical fitness but also mental resilience and unity among personnel.
In his address, Lt Gen Ketter highlighted the significant role of sports in fostering morale, camaraderie, and strategic thinking among service members. He emphasized that the golf tournament was more than a mere game; it was a discipline that cultivates patience and sharpens strategic decision-making. He urged participants to see the game as training for life, leadership, and mission readiness, encouraging thoughtful risk assessment and acceptance of outcomes.
Lt Gen Ketter further expressed gratitude to the KDF Golf Association and event sponsors for their support in organizing the tournament. He commended the soldiers present, describing the tournament as a testament to their shared commitment to excellence both in their military duties and in sport, reinforcing the values of unity and professionalism in the Kenya Defence Forces
The competition featured 106 golfers; including serving and retired KDF officers, service members, and players from nearby Thika clubs who showcased precision and discipline across multiple categories, with outstanding performers recognized for the depth of talent and competitive spirit throughout the event.
The tournament drew corporate sponsorship from Madison Insurance, KMC, DEFWES, ONSEC appliances, Muthokinju Paints & Cement , Davis and Shirtliff, KCB, KSL, Kingdom Bank, Pioneer Insurance and Vivo Energy. Their representatives emphasised that such partnerships not only enhance troops’ welfare and morale but also reinforce unity, discipline and meaningful engagement with the civilian fraternity.
