The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri received the Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Kenya and the Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN-Habitat, H.E Lieutenant General (Rtd) Peter Kakowou Lavahun during a courtesy call at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
During the meeting, the CDF and High Commissioner discussed and resolved to foster cooperation and additionally promised to fast track the signing of the Defence Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Kenya and the Republic of Sierra Leone to provide a framework for structured and enhanced defence cooperation between the two countries.
Both General Kahariri and the High Commissioner appreciated the longstanding relationship between the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), highlighting the role that KDF played in stabilizing Sierra Leone in late 1990s up to early 2000. In addition, the two also acknowledged RSLAF contribution in Somalia as part of the then AMISOM.
The CDF was accompanied by the Colonel Defence Relations Office, Col Samuel Olando and the Colonel Plans at DHQ Strategic Plans and Policy Branch, Col David Owili while the High Commissioner was alongside the Minister Plenipotentiary, Mr Abdul Karim Kargbo and the Information Attachee, Abu Bakar Dakowa.
Earlier on CDF hosted a delegation from Azerbaijan, led by the Minister of Defence Industries, Vuqar Mustafayev, paid a courtesy call to the Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
The meeting featured discussions aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations between Kenya and Azerbaijan, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to mutually beneficial cooperation.
Kenya and Azerbaijan have continued to deepen their bilateral ties over time. In June 2025, the two nations marked 20 years of diplomatic relations with the inauguration of Azerbaijan’s permanent embassy in Nairobi, a significant milestone in advancing bilateral cooperation.
