Troops operating under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) were honoured to support security operations during the 23rd Lamu Cultural Festival, maintaining full situational control across both land and maritime domains throughout the three-day event.
The festival drew large crowds for dhow races, traditional performances, and cultural exhibitions. Despite the surge in attendance, OAB forces sustained a strong and uninterrupted security environment that allowed all activities to proceed safely and without disruption.
Preparations began well in advance, with reconnaissance teams mapping potential congestion points, assessing vulnerable areas, and establishing early-warning mechanisms. This groundwork enabled command teams to incorporate cultural insights from local leaders, ensuring precise and respectful crowd management.
Under OAB’s unified command, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Kenya Navy Special Boat Unit (SBU), National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Kenya Forest Service (KFS), and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) conducted synchronized patrols supported by seamless information sharing across all agencies.
On Lamu Island, KDF troops maintained a continuous security posture, including persistent foot patrols through narrow alleyways, mobile patrols along mainland access routes, and static guards at strategic points. Their visible presence reassured residents and served as a strong deterrent against potential threats.
At sea, the Kenya Navy’s SBU and the Kenya Coast Guard Service maintained a reinforced maritime security belt. Tactical boats secured dhow-race channels, managed vessel movement, and coordinated with Red Cross teams to ensure rapid response capability along the seafront.
County authorities praised the decisive multi-agency effort, noting that the successful festival reflects the unwavering commitment of OAB forces to safeguarding Lamu, strengthening public confidence, and enabling cultural and economic activities to flourish in a secure environment.
