CDF PRESIDES OVER FORMATION COMMANDERS’ CONFERENCE

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, on 27 November 2025 presided over the Formation Commanders’ Conference held in Nairobi.

The conference brought together commanders from all Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) formations and services to review operational, manpower, training, and mission readiness; assess equipment preparedness; and outline strategic priorities aligned with KDF’s mandate of safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The commanders emphasized the need to embrace this year’s theme, “Investing in human capital for a professional and adaptive force,” while also integrating emerging technologies to ensure KDF remains agile and mission-capable in both local and regional operations.

A keynote address supporting the theme was delivered by Dr. Paul Russo, Group Chief Executive Officer of KCB Group PLC, followed by a panel discussion on selected thematic areas.

Commanders presented detailed assessments of their formations, highlighting achievements, emerging challenges, and areas requiring immediate attention. Discussions underscored the importance of continuous adaptation to evolving threats and leveraging modern technology to enhance operational efficiency.

The conference also provided a platform for sharing insights, reviewing lessons learned from recent deployments, and reaffirming KDF’s commitment to national and regional peace and stability.

In attendance were the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda; the Vice Chancellor of the National Defence University–Kenya, Lieutenant General David Tarus; the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Keter; the Kenya Air Force Commander, Major General Bernard Waliaula; the Kenya Navy Commander, Major General Paul Otieno and Senior officers in the Kenya Defence Force.
