The Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya together with Governor Nandi County, Hon Stephen Sang, accompanied by Defence Principal Secretary, Dr. Patrick Mariru, today presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of two key development projects in Nandi County; the construction of a new block at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital and the proposed Kipchoge Keino Kapsabet Stadium in Nandi County.
The new hospital block is expected to significantly expand Kapsabet Hospital’s capacity, incorporating enhanced infrastructure, specialized care services, and improved maternal and child health facilities. Once completed, it will boost access to quality healthcare for residents of Nandi County and surrounding regions, reduce referral burdens, and improve overall healthcare services.
Similarly, the proposed Kipchoge Keino Kapsabet Stadium will become a modern facility that nurtures local sporting talent, promotes youth development, and stimulates economic growth in the region. With Nandi County known as the source of champions, the stadium is set to offer athletes a world class environment to train, compete, and excel.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Tuya reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) unwavering commitment to supporting projects of national importance in line with the directive of the President and Commander-in-Chief, H.E William Ruto who tasked the Ministry with assisting through its secondary mandate. She emphasized that MoD, through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), will provide full oversight and supervision to ensure the two projects are completed to the highest standards, within budget, and within the stipulated timelines.
Hon. Tuya expressed her appreciation to the local community for their support and assured residents of MoD’s commitment in actualizing both projects, which will significantly transform the social and economic landscape of Nandi County and its environs.
On his part, Governor Sang assured MoD leadership of the county’s full support in actualizing the two projects for the benefit of the local community, bettering their livelihoods and building socio-economic development of the society.
The successful delivery of the projects will be achieved through close collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Health, and the County Government of Nandi.
Present during the ceremony was Nandi Deputy Governor, Dr. Mitei Cheruiyot, Area Member of Parliament Hon. Josses Lelmengit, Tindiret Member of Parliament, Hon. Julius Melly,Chief in Charge of National Projects at Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Titus Sokobe, MoD Officials, other local leaders and the local community.
