Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) and Kenya Navy personnel domiciled at Manda Bay—both officers and service members—came together for an inter-service football competition aimed at enhancing team cohesion, physical fitness, mental resilience, and cooperation.
The activity was officiated by the OAB Commander, Brigadier William Kamoiro, alongside senior base officers, underscoring command support for holistic force readiness. Held at the base sports ground, the event formed part of ongoing welfare and morale-boosting initiatives designed to support personnel operating in demanding operational environments.
The competition opened with a football match between Corporals and Sergeants, before culminating in a decisive encounter between Officers and Warrant Officers. The Officers’ team secured a hard-fought 3–1 victory, with Brigadier Kamoiro delivering a perfectly timed header for the third goal, sealing the contest after an intense and closely fought match. Throughout the games, participants demonstrated high levels of teamwork, physical endurance, sportsmanship, and mutual respect.
Brigadier Kamoiro commended the discipline, cohesion, and enthusiasm displayed by the personnel, noting the importance of such engagements in sustaining morale, strengthening communication across ranks, and reinforcing unity of effort between Operation Amani Boni and Kenya Navy personnel. The brief pause from routine operational tempo contributed positively to morale and overall well-being.
The sporting activity fostered esprit de corps, eased operational strain, and strengthened interpersonal bonds among the deployed forces.
