As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen civil–military relations, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops recently conducted a Key Leadership Engagement (KLE) at Elgolicha Settlement, Mandera County.
The engagement was led by Major Titus Tukei, accompanied by Chief Inspector Gibson Rotich of the Border Patrol Unit and Chief Inspector Oliver Ngetich of the National Police Service. The forum brought together local administration officials, elders, youth representatives, and women group leaders, providing an inclusive platform for dialogue and information sharing.
The activity commenced with a community baraza held at the Chief’s Office in Elgolicha. During the engagement, residents expressed concerns over persistent insecurity in the area and the severe drought affecting local livelihoods. The community also demonstrated a strong willingness to cooperate with government security agencies in identifying, reporting, and neutralizing criminal and insurgent elements.
Local leaders, led by the Senior Chief of Wante Location, Mr. Adan Iduba, commended the KDF for its visible presence and sustained commitment to peace and security in Elgolicha. They further expressed their continued support for ongoing security operations in the area.
In his Remarks, Major Tukei thanked the residents for their large turnout and for openly sharing information critical to the security of Kenya’s borders. He emphasized the importance of timely and accurate information sharing, noting that community cooperation remains a decisive factor in the success of counter-terrorism operations. He reaffirmed the KDF’s unwavering commitment to defeating insurgent elements, safeguarding local livelihoods and resources, securing Kenya’s borders, and maintaining peace and stability in the area.
