CDF VISITS TROOPS

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, undertook an operational tour of key Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) formations in the North Eastern and Coastal theatres, with key visits to the 6 Brigade Headquarters in Modika, Garissa County, and the Operation Amani Boni (OAB) Headquarters in Lamu County.

The tour commenced at the 6 Brigade Headquarters in Modika, where General Kahariri was received by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Meshack Kishoyian. While at the headquarters, the CDF received comprehensive briefings on the prevailing security environment across the wider North Eastern operational theatre. The region remains strategically critical due to its proximity to international borders and continued exposure to cross-border and transnational security threats.

Addressing officers and service personnel at the brigade, General Kahariri commended the formation for its discipline, resilience, and professionalism. He urged the troops to maintain sustained vigilance, conduct intelligence-driven operations, and strengthen inter-agency and community cooperation as key pillars for preserving security and operational stability in the region.

“The security of this region remains a national priority for the Government and the KDF. You are deployed on the forward line of defence, carrying the responsibility of protecting Kenya’s sovereignty, securing our borders, and safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of our people against all threats,” he stated.

The CDF later inspected sections of the Lamu Port–South Sudan–Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor, a critical national development artery. At the Kilometre 181 sector, he received detailed progress briefings from engineers and officials of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA). He also engaged troops deployed along key segments of the corridor and was briefed on force protection arrangements and area security measures. General Kahariri emphasised that the corridor is a strategic national asset central to Kenya’s economic growth, national connectivity, and regional integration.

General Kahariri subsequently proceeded to Lamu County, where he toured the Kenya Navy Base Manda. He received briefings on joint land and maritime operations being conducted under Operation Amani Boni, highlighting ongoing efforts to deny hostile elements freedom of movement while securing the coastline and adjoining land corridors.

The CDF inspected key facilities at the base and interacted with naval and army personnel stationed there, commending their coordination, operational readiness, and discipline in maintaining maritime and coastal security.

Overall, the visit assessed troop readiness, operational effectiveness, and the security posture in these strategically vital regions. It also reaffirmed the Kenya Defence Forces’ unwavering commitment to defending national sovereignty and protecting critical national infrastructure, underscoring its resolve to sustain stability amid evolving security threats.

Throughout the tour, the CDF was accompanied by the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, and the 2nd Brigade Commander, Brigadier General William Kamoiro.
