Colonel Bakari Amani Kotea currently serves as the Senior Instructor and Colonel Head Of Teaching Team (Col HOTT) at the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC). He was enlisted in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on 16 August 1994 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 29 November 1995. Upon commissioning, he was posted to 9 Kenya Rifles, marking the beginning of his distinguished career in the Kenya Army.
Colonel Kotea holds a Master’s degree in Defence Studies, National Security and Strategy from the National Defence University-Kenya. (NDU-K). Prior to his current appointment, he held several key appointments, including Directing Staff at JCSC, Staff Officer II Operations at Kenya Army Headquarters, Company Commander at 9 Kenya Rifles, Regimental Signal Officer, among other positions.
In 2001, Colonel Kotea served with the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE), contributing to international peacekeeping efforts.
