KENYA AND CZECH REPUBLIC SIGN DEFENCE COOPERATION AGREEMENT

Kenya and the Czech Republic on 28th Jan 2026 took a significant step toward deepening their longstanding bilateral defence relations following the signing of a Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.

The agreement was signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Kenya, Her Excellency Ms. Nicol Adamcova. The DCA establishes a structured and comprehensive framework to guide enhanced cooperation between the two nations’ defence establishments.

Under the agreement, Kenya and the Czech Republic will collaborate in key priority areas including military education and training, peacekeeping and peace support operations, intelligence and information sharing, maritime security, cybersecurity, humanitarian assistance and disaster response. The framework is designed to promote interoperability, professional capacity building and the exchange of best practices, while strengthening institutional linkages between the two defence forces.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Hon. Soipan Tuya commended the Czech Republic for its sustained support to the KDF, particularly in the training and capacity development of KDF Special Forces. She noted that this cooperation has had a positive impact on Kenya’s internal security and has contributed significantly to regional stability.

Her Excellency Ambassador Nicol Adamcová reaffirmed the Czech Republic’s commitment to a strong and enduring partnership with Kenya. She emphasized the shared values and mutual interests that underpin defence cooperation between the two countries and underscored the role of sustained military-to-military engagement in advancing peace, security and stability at both regional and global levels.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Plans, Doctrine and Training (OPD&T), Major General Fredrick Leuria. Ambassador Adamcová was accompanied by Her Excellency Ms. Stella Mokaya, Kenya’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, as well as the Czech Military and Air Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Bonvoj Jurenka.
