NDU-K HOLDS COMPETENCY-BASED TRAINING WORKSHOP

NDU-K HOLDS COMPETENCY-BASED TRAINING WORKSHOP

The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) has commenced a four-day Competency Based Training (CBT) Workshop at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), bringing together military trainers and training stakeholders from across the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

The workshop was officially opened by the NDU-K Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Anne Muigai. In her opening remarks, Prof Muigai urged participants to adopt training approaches that move beyond theory and effectively prepare officers and soldiers for the demands of modern military operations.

She noted that the evolving security landscape demands personnel who are not only well trained, but demonstrably competent and adaptable, adding that effective training translates into practical, mission-oriented skills.

Throughout the four-day workshop, participants will examine the practical application of the Competency Based Training model within Professional Military Education and Training (PMET). Key focus areas include identifying core competencies, developing relevant curricula, applying effective instructional methodologies, and conducting meaningful assessments.

The workshop will also provide a platform for open dialogue, shared experiences, and hands-on engagement. Through presentations, group discussions, and practical exercises, participants will exchange ideas on how competency-based approaches can enhance training across military institutions.
