VCDF CHAIRS JOINT CONTROL BOARD (JCB) MEETING AT IPSTC

On 28th January 2026, The Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF), Lieutenant General John Omenda chaired the Joint Control Board (JCB) meeting of the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC). The meeting brought together key National and lnternational partners to review the Centre’s strategic direction, operational performance and future priorities in peace support training and research.

Senior Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Officials in attendance included The Director of IPSTC, Major General Charles Lenjo Mwazighe and The Chief of Training, Brigadier Paul Kiplimo Koech, underscoring KDF’s leadership role in guiding IPSTC’s mandate and sustaining its standing as a regional and international training institution.

In his remarks, Lt Gen Omenda commended IPSTC for its sustained contribution to capacity building in peace support operations and reaffirmed KDF’s commitment to strengthening the Centre as a hub for training, doctrine development and research tailored to emerging and complex security environments.

The Joint Control Board serves as IPSTC’s external governance body and meets biannually to provide strategic leadership, policy guidance and institutional oversight. Chaired by Kenya through the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Operations, Plans, Doctrine and Training (ACDF OPD&T), the Board brings together partners from the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Germany, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Australia, the Netherlands and France, who collectively support the Centre through training, research and capacity development initiatives while ensuring financial transparency, accountability and shared decision-making.

The meeting reaffirmed IPSTC’s status as a centre of excellence in peace support training and research, with Kenya through the KDF which continues to play a leading role in promoting peace, stability and international cooperation.
