Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, accompanied by the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics, Major General Edward Rugendo, today conducted a site visit to Phase I of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Housing Project under the Government’s Affordable Housing Programme at Embakasi Garrison.
The visit was aimed at assessing progress and ensuring adherence to project timelines. The housing project was initiated in June 2025, with construction works commencing in January 2026, and is scheduled for completion within a two-year timeframe. Dr. Mariru reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to close supervision and continuous monitoring of the contractor to guarantee timely delivery and quality standards.
The Embakasi housing development is part of a broader programme comprising 10,095 housing units being implemented by the Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, under the Affordable Housing Programme. The housing units are distributed across Embakasi, Kahawa and Lang’ata Garrisons, as well as Moi Air Base and Roysambu Military Camp, aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of service personnel.
Also present during the site visit were the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Major General Luka Kutto, and the Chief of Infrastructure at Defence Headquarters, Brigadier General Said Mwacharo.
The Affordable Housing Programme remains a key government priority, with the Ministry of Defence playing a critical role in supporting national development objectives while enhancing the well-being of members of the Kenya Defence Forces.
