On 17 February 2025, the 5th Kenya Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF 5), deployed under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), visited Kartusi Secondary School on the outskirts of Mavivi town to encourage students to pursue their dreams and stay away from illegal armed groups active in the region.
The visit included motivational talks, prayers by the contingent’s clergy and donations of learning and teaching materials plus girl-child essentials for 10 girls orphaned due to conflict.
The QRF leadership stressed that every child has a right to quality education and that MONUSCO’s presence aimed at ensuring students can learn in a safe and secure environment.
“Our troops are committed not just to safeguarding lives but also to nurturing the potential of young people here, so they can build brighter futures free from violence and fear,” noted the Commander KENQRF.
The school, which has 160 students, received the support warmly. Headteacher Mr. Kakule Nzandu thanked the contingent, noting that the donated materials would reduce key constraints to effective teaching and learning.
“We are deeply thankful for this thoughtful assistance from the Quick Reaction Force. The supplied educational resources and hygiene items for our orphaned girls will greatly help us overcome everyday obstacles and keep classes running smoothly for all our learners,” appreciated Mr. Kakule.
The area Chief Mr. Zack Manoku praised the QRF leadership not only for providing security against armed groups but also for demonstrating genuine care for community wellbeing through targeted support initiatives.
