PRESIDENT WILLIAM RUTO COMMISSIONS 500 MODERN KDF HOUSING UNITS; LAUNCHES PHASE TWO EXPANSION AT ROYSAMBU

His Excellency Dr William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, on Thursday 26 February 2026 commissioned 500 newly completed housing units at Roysambu Military Camp in Nairobi.

This milestone that marks a significant step in addressing the longstanding housing deficit within the military; forms part of Phase One of the KDF Public Private Partnership Housing Programme, which targets delivery of 3,069 housing units for service personnel and their families.

The broader initiative seeks to mitigate accommodation challenges and enhance welfare across the Forces across five military establishment: Roysambu, Kwambuzi in Nanyuki, Lanet, Gilgil, and Mariakani Barracks.

In his address, the President stated that the Government has deliberately integrated disciplined forces into the national housing agenda to correct years of neglect that had normalised substandard living conditions for officers tasked with safeguarding the nation.

The President affirmed that the project remains on schedule, with full completion expected by June this year.

Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon. Soipan Tuya on her part described the provision of housing for military personnel as both a moral obligation and a strategic imperative. She noted that secure and stable living conditions directly contribute to improved morale and operational readiness, reaffirming the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to the welfare of the Forces.

Chief of the Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri expressed appreciation to all stakeholders involved in the project with emphasis that the initiative represents more than infrastructure development. He observed that the programme strengthens morale and enables service personnel to execute their constitutional mandate with confidence and focus.

The President also laid the foundation stone for Phase Two of the Roysambu Military Camp Housing Project, which will deliver an additional 10,095 housing units across various military installations, further advancing the Government’s commitment to dignified accommodation for members of the Kenya Defence Forces.

Among those present were Principal Secretary for Defence Dr. Patrick Mariru; Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General John Omenda; Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Ketter; Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Bernard Waliaula; General Officers; senior government officials; senior officers; service personnel; and their families.
