Major General Salil Padma, Acting Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) and Commander of Sector Central, today hosted the leadership of the 4th Kenya Signal Company (KENSIG 4) at his office in Goma to formally commend their vital role in supporting the mission’s mandate.
The engagement highlighted the Kenyan troops’ commendable provision of reliable communication support, which has enabled seamless coordination across MONUSCO operations.
Major General Padma praised the unit’s strong collaboration with other contingents in Goma and their exemplary civil-military relations, which he described as essential pillars for advancing the mission’s priority task of Protection of Civilians (PoC).
“I am deeply impressed by the professionalism and dedication of the Kenyan Signals team,” Major General Padma said, adding that “their unwavering commitment to secure, efficient communications has strengthened our collective ability to protect vulnerable communities and respond swiftly to emerging threats in this dynamic environment.”
In response, KDF Mission leadership reaffirmed the troops’ steadfast pledge to uphold the highest standards of operational readiness, discipline and adherence to the mission’s Rules of Engagement (ROEs). They emphasized the unit’s ongoing focus on delivering dependable communication services to support Force Headquarters and broader peacekeeping efforts.
The Kenya Signal troops have successively provided communication backbone support to MONUSCO’s Force Headquarters in Goma since October 2022, facilitating critical information flow among contingents and contributing to effective mandate execution amid ongoing security challenges in eastern DRC.
