In a vibrant ceremony, the County Government of Nakuru, led by Governor Susan Kihika, officially launched the Military Veterans Chapter for Nakuru region, an initiative aimed at honouring retired members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and strengthening support systems for veterans under the national framework.
The establishment of the Nakuru Military Veterans Chapter aligns with the Kenya Military Veterans Act, 2022, legislation designed to create structured support systems for ex-service personnel and their dependants. Under this framework, county chapters act as vital links in decentralizing services from health care access and psycho-social support to mentorship, skills training, and economic empowerment opportunities for veterans returning to civilian life.
In her address, Governor Kihika acknowledged the profound sacrifices made by those who served in the Kenya Defence Forces and emphasised the county’s commitment to their welfare, empowerment, and integration into community development. She noted that veterans possess valuable skills, leadership experience, and a sense of discipline that can be harnessed for the socio-economic growth of Nakuru.
Representatives from the Military Veterans, led by Lt Gen (Rtd) Humphrey Njoroge, reaffirmed support for the initiative and underlined the importance of strong county-level structures that promote skills development, mentorship programmes, community service engagement, and economic empowerment opportunities for veterans and their dependents.
They further expressed optimism that the chapter will become a cornerstone for veteran empowerment, community mentorship, and sustained civic contribution.
The ceremony also provided a platform for veterans to share personal stories of resilience, patriotism, and transition challenges reinforcing the profound collective respect for their service to the republic.
With the launch of the Nakuru Chapter, the county joins a growing movement nationwide to ensure that those who once defended the country are honoured, supported, and integrated into county development initiatives.
