COMMANDER KENYA AIR FORCE ADVANCES GLOBAL DEFENCE DIPLOMACY AND CAPACITY BUILDING DURING STRATEGIC VISIT TO GERMANY

The Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula, accompanied by the Director Military Intelligence, Major General Mohammed Burje, and senior officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), reinforced the KDF’s commitment to modernization, self-reliance, and strategic international partnerships during an official visit to Grob Aircraft SE in Tussenhausen-Mattsies, Germany.

The visit underscored the KDF’s resolve to leverage global collaboration in strengthening training, sustainment, and operational capability development in response to evolving security dynamics. It further highlighted the growing stature of the KDF as a forward-looking and professionally adaptive force focused on long-term institutional capacity building.

At the center of the engagement was the enhancement of operational capacity at the Aviation Centre of Excellence. Discussions aimed at consolidating sustainable training frameworks to support pilot training for the Kenya Defence Forces, as well as other Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies and allied partners.

During the meetings, deliberations focused on long-term fleet sustainment, technical support structures, simulator integration, and optimized maintenance systems to ensure consistent aircraft availability. The Commander Kenya Air Force emphasized the critical role of dependable industry partnerships in maintaining high training standards, enhancing flight safety, and ensuring mission-ready aircrew.

The Director Military Intelligence observed that effective logistical support remains fundamental to military aviation training. He noted that maintaining the serviceability of aircraft, simulators, and ground support equipment directly contributes to continuity in training programmes, attainment of required flying hours, and the preservation of operational competence and safety standards.

The senior management team of Grob Aircraft SE was led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Wolfgang Gammel. The company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kenya’s pilot training objectives through enhanced technical collaboration, robust maintenance support, and responsive supply chain solutions.

Both parties expressed confidence that sustained cooperation will reduce aircraft ground time, strengthen training output, and reinforce the long-term operational readiness of the Kenya Air Force.
