The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) 2nd Military Police Battalion conducted a tree planting exercise at Mihang’o Primary School in Embakasi, Nairobi County, reaffirming the military’s commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement.

The team was received by the school’s Headteacher, Mrs. Mary Ondieki Chemutai, who welcomed the initiative and appreciated the collaboration between the military and the local learning institution.

During the exercise, the KDF team successfully planted over 5000 trees within the school compound and its environs. The activity demonstrated the unit’s commitment not only to national security but also to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

Speaking during the engagement, KDF commanders present noted that the activity aligns with the KDF Environmental Soldier Programme which encourages military personnel to actively participate in protecting the environment and managing natural resources sustainably. They emphasized that environmental conservation remains a shared responsibility that requires the participation of all stakeholders.

The exercise forms part of the Government of Kenya’s national strategy of planting 15 billion trees by the year 2032, an ambitious programme aimed at combating climate change, restoring degraded landscapes and enhancing environmental sustainability across the country.
