CDF VISITS THE KINGDOM OF MOROCCO

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco at the invitation of Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (Forces Armées Royales – FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone.

The visit commenced with a formal wreath-laying ceremony at the Mausoleum of Mohammed V in Rabat.

Subsequently, the CDF held bilateral talks with his host, focusing on enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries. Both leaders underscored the importance of finalising the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) as a critical step towards strengthening bilateral ties. Key areas identified for collaboration include training, joint exercises, defence industry opportunities, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) to enhance local sustainment capabilities.

The two leaders also acknowledged emerging and shared security threats, including cybercrime, information security challenges, terrorism, piracy, transnational crime, and climate-induced instability. They agreed to deepen cooperation through joint exercises, capacity building, and enhanced information sharing. Notably, the CDF reaffirmed Kenya’s continued participation in Exercise African Lion to validate operational concepts, improve force integration, and strengthen mutual trust.

Later, the CDF visited the 1st Parachute Infantry Brigade, where he received a comprehensive briefing on the unit’s training and operations.

During the visit, the CDF is also scheduled to tour key Moroccan military institutions, including the Royal Navy Headquarters, the Royal Air Force Headquarters, the Royal Military Academy in Meknes, and the Royal College of Higher Military Education in Kenitra.

The visit is expected to inject renewed momentum into defence cooperation between the two countries, with a focus on developing a prioritised implementation roadmap to deliver timely and measurable operational outcomes.
