HONORING SERVICE, BUILDING LEGACY

As the inauguration of county veterans’ chapters in various counties continues, the Chairman of the Military Veterans Advisory Committee, Major General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo, accompanied by the Kericho County Veterans patron, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Jonathan Rono, officially launched the Kericho County Military Veterans Chapter.

The launch reinforced the institutional framework provided by the Military Veterans Act (Chapter 199A), which mandates the management of veteran affairs, including the provision of benefits for both retired service members and their dependents.

Addressing the veterans during the inauguration, Kericho County Governor Dr. Erick Mutai assured them that the county recognizes their sacrifice not as history, but as a living foundation on which they continue to build stating that beginning of a stronger partnership between his administration and the veterans, will work hand in hand to empower the youth through skills development, mentorship and expanded employment opportunities for their experience, leadership and loyalty to service.

In his remarks, Major General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo emphasized on the establishment of the Kericho Military Veterans Chapter which reflects a collective pledge to protect the welfare, dignity and continued engagement of retired personnel. He stated that veterans remain a critical national asset whose experience, discipline and specialized knowledge continue to contribute meaningfully to county resilience and national security priorities.

The inauguration was concluded with a presentation from the Director of Military Veterans, Brigadier Moses Leriari, where the veterans received detailed briefings on pension processing, benefits on healthcare, access to educational funds and economic programs.
