KDF MARKS EASTER SUNDAY IN PRAYER AND REFLECTION

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) today joined the Christian community in marking Easter Sunday with solemn Mass and church services, bringing together service members and their families in reflection on faith, sacrifice, and renewal.

During a Mass presided over by the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, the Right Reverend Wallace Ng’ang’a, KDF personnel and their families gathered for a moment of reflection on the significance of Easter—a season symbolizing hope, renewal, and sacrifice.

In his sermon, the Bishop noted that life’s journey is marked by both highs and lows, and that challenges, including moments of tribulation, are inevitable. He urged the faithful to remain steadfast, drawing strength from the teachings and example of Christ to endure and overcome adversity.

The service also served as a reminder of the spiritual strength that underpins military duty, as well as the importance of remembering and uplifting those on the frontlines, together with their families, through prayer and solidarity.

At Moi Air Base (MAB), the Christian community gathered at St. Peter’s Church for a vibrant Easter celebration presided over by Colonel (Rev) Granton Mwanyanya, the Principal Chaplain (AC). The celebration was marked by solemn yet joyful liturgies, including scripture readings, choral hymns, and prayers of thanksgiving.

The congregation reflected on the message of hope, renewal, and victory over adversity, drawing parallels between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the core military values of sacrifice, duty, and perseverance.

In his sermon, Col (Rev) Mwanyanya cautioned against the dangers of misguided expectations, weak faith commitment, and negative influences, noting that these can lead to moral and spiritual decline. He urged personnel to remain steadfast in faith, stay close to Christ, and uphold spiritual discipline as a foundation for integrity and resilience in service.

At Kenya Navy Base Manda, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel deployed under the multi-agency security framework Operation Amani Boni (OAB), alongside troops stationed at Kenya Navy Base Manda Bay, joined Christian faithful in commemorating Easter Sunday in a solemn yet uplifting ceremony.

The Holy Mass was presided over by Captain Fr. Vincent Onyango, who delivered a sermon centered on faith, duty and resilience. He encouraged the troops to remain “first in mission” while drawing strength from their faith, emphasizing the critical role of spiritual resilience in sustaining morale in high-pressure environments. He further reminded the congregation that discipline, vigilance and commitment remain essential virtues both in service and in personal conduct.

As Operation Amani Boni continues, the Easter service underscored the importance of spiritual well-being in maintaining operational effectiveness. It reaffirmed the troops’ collective commitment to duty while highlighting the role of faith in fostering unity, boosting morale, and sustaining the mental and emotional strength required in the line of service.
