The continued development of sustainable and reliable defence production capabilities remains critical to strengthening national security, operational readiness and institutional self-sufficiency. As a key pillar in supporting the preparedness of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation (KOFC) plays a vital role in advancing national resilience through the production and supply of essential defence-related equipment and services.
In line with this strategic mandate, the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF), Lieutenant General John Omenda, chaired the 72nd Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation Board of Directors meeting at the International Peace Support Training Centre.
In his opening remarks, Lt Gen Omenda reaffirmed the strategic importance of KOFC in advancing national security through the assurance of sustainable and reliable production capabilities. He emphasised that the effective implementation of the institution’s strategic plan remains critical to achieving its long-term vision and operational objectives.
The VCDF further underscored the importance of coordinated efforts, institutional efficiency and forward-looking strategies to ensure KOFC continues to enhance its contribution to national resilience, self-sufficiency and overall security preparedness.
The meeting brought together senior military and government leadership, including Principal Secretary Dr Patrick Mariru, PhD, CBS; Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno; Deputy Commander Kenya Army, Major General Hassan Muhammad; Managing Director KOFC, Major General George Okumu; Assistant Chief of Defence Forces (Personnel and Logistics), Major General Edward Rugendo; and Director General, Defence National Security Industries (DNSI), Major General Faustino Lobaly.
The presence of senior defence and government officials at the meeting underscored the strategic importance attached to strengthening local defence production capabilities and enhancing institutional collaboration in support of national security objectives. Their participation reflected a shared commitment to advancing operational readiness, self-reliance and long-term defence sustainability.
