Cultural heritage plays an important role in strengthening national identity, fostering mutual understanding, and promoting unity among diverse communities. Within military and regional institutions, cultural exchanges provide a valuable platform for enhancing cooperation, building lasting relationships, and appreciating the values that underpin national cohesion and security.
This spirit was evident during the Cultural Day celebrations at the Command and Staff College Tanzania, held under the theme “Cultural Heritage for National Security.” The event brought together participants from various countries to showcase their cultural traditions and highlight the role of culture in promoting unity and regional cooperation.
The occasion was graced by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in Tanzania’s Ministry of Information, Arts, Culture and Sports, Mr. Methusela Ntonda, who served as the Chief Guest.
Kenya proudly showcased its rich cultural heritage through an exhibition of traditional artefacts, Kikuyu and Teso cuisines, and local brews, providing participants with an opportunity to experience the country’s diverse cultural traditions. The
Kenyan delegation also presented tokens of appreciation to the Chief Guest and the Chief Instructor of the Command and Staff College Tanzania in recognition of their support and hospitality.
Among the Kenyan participants were Lieutenant Colonel Otwane of the Kenya Air Force and Lieutenant Colonel Kimondo of the Kenya Navy. They were joined by Lieutenant Colonel D. M. Buluhku, an Exchange Directing Staff from Kenya to the Defence Staff College Tanzania, Colonel Kisilu, the East African Community Liaison Officer, and other Kenyans residing in Arusha who attended the event in solidarity.
The celebration underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening regional ties, fostering mutual respect among partner nations, and promoting a shared appreciation of the cultural heritage that contributes to peace, stability, and national security.
