Operational success is built on more than tactical capability alone. It depends on sustained readiness, disciplined leadership, high morale and continuous engagement with troops in the field. Regular command visits provide an opportunity to assess operational progress, address emerging challenges and reinforce the leadership required to sustain security gains in complex operational environments.
This enduring approach was demonstrated when the Deputy Army Commander, Major General John Maiso Nkoimo, visited troops deployed under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) in Baringo and Laikipia counties. The engagement enabled Army Headquarters to evaluate ongoing operations, strengthen troop morale, address welfare concerns and provide strategic guidance to personnel serving on the frontline.
Major General Nkoimo commended the troops for their resilience, dedication and professionalism in executing operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across the banditry-prone areas of the North Rift. He acknowledged the significant progress achieved, noting that the soldiers’ determination and sacrifice have disrupted criminal activities and enhanced security for affected communities.
The Deputy Army Commander underscored the importance of maintaining the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and operational conduct throughout the mission. He observed that military success is reinforced by positive engagement with local communities, where mutual trust and cooperation strengthen the effectiveness of ongoing security operations and contribute to lasting peace.
He also emphasized the value of a coordinated Multi-Agency Security approach, noting that close collaboration between the Kenya Defence Forces and other security agencies enhances operational effectiveness through shared intelligence, synchronized planning and unified execution.
Concluding the visit, Major General Nkoimo expressed confidence in the troops’ ability to consolidate the gains already realized in the fight against banditry. He encouraged them to remain vigilant, disciplined and steadfast in the execution of their mandate while assuring them of the continued support of Army Headquarters in strengthening both operational capability and troop welfare. His visit reaffirmed the Kenya Army’s enduring focus on readiness, leadership and sustained operational excellence as critical pillars in securing peace and protecting the nation.
