SUSTAINING OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE THROUGH READINESS

Operational success in complex security environments is anchored in sustained readiness, disciplined execution and responsive leadership. For troops deployed in demanding operational areas, regular command engagement provides an essential link between strategic direction and realities on the ground, while strengthening morale, addressing welfare concerns and sharpening mission effectiveness.

The Deputy Army Commander, Major General John Maiso Nkoimo, recently visited Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) in Baringo and Laikipia Counties. The command visit provided an opportunity to assess operational progress, engage troops on emerging challenges and reinforce the leadership’s support for personnel serving in banditry-prone areas of the North Rift.

Addressing the troops, Major General Nkoimo commended their steadfast dedication, resilience and professionalism in executing operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region. He lauded the notable operational gains achieved, observing that the troops’ resolve and sacrifice had significantly disrupted criminal activities and contributed to improved security in affected communities.

The Deputy Army Commander challenged the troops to sustain the momentum by maintaining the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and operational conduct. He emphasised that military effectiveness extends beyond tactical success, requiring personnel to remain accountable, adaptable and focused on the broader objective of creating lasting security and stability.

Major General Nkoimo further underscored the importance of cordial relations with local communities, noting that trust and cooperation between security forces and the population remain critical to the success of ongoing operations. Strong civil-military engagement, he observed, enhances information sharing, strengthens confidence in security interventions and supports collective efforts towards lasting peace.

He also called for deeper collaboration within the Multi-Agency Security Team, stressing that operational synergy between the KDF and other security actors is essential in confronting evolving security threats. Coordinated planning, intelligence sharing and complementary capabilities, he noted, enable security agencies to respond decisively and effectively to challenges across the operational area.

Concluding his engagement, Major General Nkoimo expressed confidence in the troops’ ability to consolidate and sustain the gains made in the fight against banditry. He urged them to remain vigilant, disciplined and unwavering in the execution of their duties, assuring them of Army Headquarters’ continued support in strengthening operational effectiveness and enhancing troop welfare.

The command visit reaffirmed the Kenya Army’s focus on maintaining mission-ready forces through responsive leadership, sustained troop engagement and operational support. As OMU continues to secure vulnerable communities in the North Rift, discipline, readiness and unity of effort remain central to preserving hard-won gains and advancing lasting peace and stability.
